Getting Started with Services...What to Expect

Process

Initial Interview and Observations:  We will start by completing a formal interview and assessment with family and caregivers to identify what are priorities to you. We often ask: "If 3 things could be easier, what would they be?" We start there.  Typically during this interview process, the child is in a separate room working with a therapist and getting familiar with the space.

Treatment Plan and Authorization:  The team will proceed to create a treatment plan that is unique to each individual child.  Due to the typical high needs of each child, a treatment plan may consist of 10-20 goals that will try to be achieved in a 6-month period with direct services provided 15-40 hours a week.  This plan is submitted to insurance and services can begin once insurance authorizes the plan.

Ongoing Treatment:  The child will attend sessions weekly in accordance to the recommendations of time and any other "real life" considerations that may impact availability.  When goals reach a point of mastery, parents and caregivers are brought in and trained on how to apply the new skills to their natural environments.

Reauthorization and Discharge: Every 6-months, a treatment plan will be re-submitted to insurance for further approval, either consisting of new goals, or the same goals and their present levels of progress.  If a child meets success criteria as determined by caregivers and the team, they will be discharged and no longer require services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at Admin@Blueskiesbehavioralgroup.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Recommendations for ABA services are typically 15-40 hours a week, with the intention of learning any needed skills quickly, so that they can move on and apply those skills to their natural environments.

When getting started, a child will typically spend all of their time at the office or home setting working 1-1 with a therapist until success criteria is met.  Once this happens, parents and caregivers are explicitly trained on how to implement strategies at home and in the community.

All children's needs are addressed on an individual basis, and group opportunities are provided to practice goals with peers.  Peers are paired into groups based on similar needs, where they have opportunities to practice communication and socialization, while also having purposeful and naturalistic opportunities to just have fun and celebrate their individuality in a safe space that honors unique needs.
